Reprinted from reACH issue 3, 2011. Earlier this year, we asked the community to support our efforts in child abuse prevention and treatment and pledge to Learn, Advocate and Give. Hundreds of you responded to this call, and we thank you. Many of you educated yourself on the cause, gave your time and talents in volunteering, and gave of your financial resources to support our work. Thank you! I am genuinely humbled by each of these commitments. But I want to renew this call again today, and every day from here on out. An active, committed and educated community is our best weapon in the fight against child abuse, and this community needs your help! Our kids can’t wait. Child abuse continues to be a growing problem in our community and we need more soldiers in this war. Identifying, preventing and treating child abuse and neglect saves lives, saves families and ultimately helps make Tarrant County a better community for all of us. Part of our mission statement reads “Together we develop solutions that create safety, hope, love and the capacity to thrive.” This statement was created to not only guide our work with children and families, but also our work with you! There is a role in this work for everyone! So, again I renew my call…This holiday season, please take a moment to Learn, Advocate and Give on behalf of the 6,222 children who were abused last year in our community, and together we can develop solutions! I wish each and every one of you a wonderful holiday season and thank you again for renewing your commitment to our work to Protect Children and Preserve Families.
