April 18 – 24 was National Appreciation Week for Volunteers, and ACH Child and Family Services wishes to recognize those ongoing volunteers who regularly donate their time and talents to help us achieve our mission.

One of our newest volunteers, Penny Brown, is assisting with the Tarrant County Safe Place Program. “Penny is a dream to work with – dependable, wise and friendly. She understands the importance of the Safe Place Program in providing young people with immediate safety and support when facing a crisis. As a mother of six children, she still makes the time to give generously as a volunteer, serving to make school and community presentations and helping out with other duties to keep the Safe Place Program running smoothly. I appreciate all that Penny does and I am honored to have such a great volunteer working alongside me.” – Lois Loeffler, Safe Place Program Coordinator

Pat Worrell, one of our most dedicated, loyal and long-time volunteers, has been helping ACH since 2005. Pat has currently undertaken the ACH archives project and is making great headway in organizing thousands of photographs, articles, newsletters and various other media that ACH has accumulated over its 95-year history. She is a regular on Thursday mornings at our Summit Campus.

University Baptist Church has provided us with five dedicated volunteers, Thomas Gilstrap, Ruth Leverenz, Dawn Lane, Risa Payne and Bryans Fitzhugh, who provide unwavering support to the LIFE Project (Learning Independence from Experience), a housing program for homeless young adults, ages 18-21.

Jason Herman has been serving with the Street Outreach Program since January and provides much-needed assistance to Street Outreach Program staff, Juan Herrera and Jessica Sorenson, in reaching out to provide education, support and referral services to the population of homeless and runaway youth in Tarrant County.

Sheryl Braun, Soulshine Photo, provided us with free photographs of our Foster Care and Adoption staff for our website, www.experiencefostercare.org

Long-time ACH volunteer Jody Massey created and decorated 15 “Life Book” binders for the Foster Care Program to help our foster families document memories for the children and youth in their care.

The Behavioral Care Program has gained a new volunteer, Lauren Morgan, who will assist our staff with activities for the children on a regular basis.

ACH Board member Julie Davidson continues to provide meals to the Behavioral Care Program on Tuesday nights, allowing ACH staff to spend concentrated time with the children and their families during skill building sessions.

ACH thanks each of you, as well as the many group and on-call volunteers whose support helps us assist children and families in need.
