Wichita Street Campus Project.case statement.Fort Worth and Tarrant County can be a great place to raise a family. Our community cares, our economy is strong and opportunity is here. But, for some children and families, life is a challenge. ACH Child and Family Services exists to help children, youth and families struggling with life’s most challenging situations. In 2002, the ACH Board of Directors convened an Integrated Facilities Task Force to develop a 20-30 year plan for ACH facilities that would provide optimal support for achieving the organization’s mission and vision. The Task Force ultimately recommended that the Wedgwood Campus be expanded to provide a neighborhood and family-like setting for children unable to live with their families, and that a new site be secured for relocation of the other administrative and programmatic functions of ACH. As a result, in 2004 ACH embarked on a capital campaign to expand the Wedgwood Campus. Shortly thereafter in 2005, ACH combined operations with another children and family service organization creating additional service lines and facilities. And in 2007, thanks to the generosity of so many, ACH completed the $5 million expansion of the Wedgwood Campus. In the last six years, ACH has significantly expanded services and developed new programs for meeting the needs of children and families in crisis. In 2001, ACH served just under 200 children and families. But in 2007, ACH served over 3,000 children and families. ACH operates in one of the fastest growing regions in the country and some projections show the population of Tarrant County surpassing the population of Dallas County by the year 2030. Currently, in Tarrant County alone, over 4,000 children annually are confirmed victims of abuse and over 50,000 children live in poverty. These numbers are expected to increase as the population grows. The board and staff of ACH recognize these trends and have been working hard to build on current strengths and to be well-positioned for responding to the future needs of children and families. In order to meet these future needs, ACH must continue its proven track record of fiscal responsibility, excellent stewardship of community resources, highest quality programming, and innovative leadership in the nonprofit and social services sector. With the successful completion of the Wedgwood Campus, ACH is now positioned to address the Task Force’s second facilities recommendation: relocation of administrative and other programmatic operations. In 2008, ACH received a gift that has propelled this project forward. Michael and Valerie Mallick approached ACH with a generous gift of 19 1⁄2 acres with nine buildings located in Fort Worth. After almost a year of due diligence and master planning, the Board of Directors found that this gift would enhance ACH’s ability to meet the current service demand and position ACH to effectively meet the projected growth in demand. The board gratefully accepted the generous gift from the Mallicks in early 2008. With the location determined, ACH is now embarking on a two-phased approach to this relocation project. ACH plans to renovate the new property and consolidate all operations, with the exceptions of the Wedgwood Residential Program and outlying county satellite offices, to this new campus-the Wichita Street Campus. For tomorrow’s children, youth and families to receive the help they need, ACH Child and Family Services needs the help of generous individuals and organizations with a heart for children and families. Gifts from the community are vital to ACH’s ability to serve those most in need. ACH is currently seeking $9.48 million for the completion of the first phase of the Home Improvements Campaign.
